Souvenirs, 2019till today

Series of objects. Polaroids, concrete, found natural objects.

Dimensions: variable

Globalization has created conditions for numerous travels around the world. Today a trip through the Atlantic to the other continents and to the four corners of the globe is not an unachievable goal. Every year the number of tourists grows up, and the number of museums and historical places visitors increases in geometric progression. Tourist shops with souvenirs made by cheap labor blink everywhere. Every traveler tries to buy the memory of his vacation or dream in such stores. But do all these souvenirs match the whole emotional spectrum that people feel when they finally reach the dreamed destination? Traveling through Mexico and standing within huge souvenir shops I wonder how this diversity of tourist goods corresponds to my experience in this country. Thus, I have decided to create my own souvenirs from the places that impressed me. Polaroids mirror our memory ─ these shots fade and lost the details as well as our memory. On the contrary, concrete is a means to freeze remembrances. The others are touches, feelings, and experiences embodied in various materials and in the found objects. The project is long-lasting and provides continual souvenir creation from different travels and significant places for me.
